Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence on society.

A-Kon 12

A-Konnnnn of the Hill People!!! Ahhh, nothing sets the tone of my summer vacation like Project A-Kon. For those of you not in the know, A-Kon is an annual anime convention held in Dallas, Texas. For the past three years, my best friend and I, Moonspark, have been going and having a high old time. Over the years, we have added two new members to our trip. For the purposes of this diary, we will call them Mistress Chicken and Chupacabra. Anyway, we hopped into Mistress Chicken's huge red truck (this is Texas, after all) and drove the 700 or so miles to Dallas. Roadtrips with your closest girlfriends is fun. I highly reccomend it. We ate junk food, talked about subjects that would light this page on fire and greedily rubbed our hands together at the prospect of A-Kon's dealer's room. Or at least Moonspark and I did. Mistress Chicken, who is somewhat of a vetran, this being her second year and Chupacabra aren't anime fans. They just go because it's fun to go to Dallas and go to the Galleria and shop. Goggling at the Cosplayers is fun for them, too. It makes them feel normal. All four of us went to the dance on Saturday night. We got there around 11 p.m. and left around 5:00 a.m. Busy night. We danced, were hit on (a record-this year EVERYONE got propositioned! WOOHOO!)went to a small but fun pseudo rave at the Westin pool, which was shut down by hotel security, went back to the dance and then bonded with some anime guys. I had a nice long chat with two lads about the Hentai Room and tentacles. Moonspark found someone who shared a love of Eddie Izzard and putting babies on spikes (long story) Mistress Chicken bonded with some Oklahoman airforce guy, Chupacabra threw paper around and I, as you know, talked to a couple of guys about their favorite characters in La Blue Girl. Moonspark had a near fatal glomp attack when some guy complimented her Wonder Woman t-shirt Saturday afternoon, we both molested a guy dressed up as Yohji from Weiss Kreuz and some guy tried to rub Mr. T's mohawk (on my t-shirt) What can I say? Everyone loves the T. And then there was Naked Man, Dangerous Dancing Man, Air-Crotch Man, Terry Bogart (man, that's fun to say) some guy named Chris with a feather duster and...oh, so much more. Needless to say, Project A-Kon 12 was a good time. If you ever have the opportunity to go to an anime convention, do it. It's fun!
